Domaine de Fontsainte Corbières Rosé "Gris de Gris" 2022

Here’s the first "petit rosé" to arrive this season and usually the best rosé value we’ll see all year. One of the first wines importer Kermit Lynch started bringing over in the late 70’s and he’s still working with them. The domaine's vineyards are planted with the usual Grenache/Syrah/Mourvedre/Carignan you’d expect in the Languedoc but the secret behind this great rosé is Grenache Gris, a pale crimson skinned varietal normally used as a blending grape but really magical as a rosé. The Fontsainte Rosé is made up of about half Grenache Gris and the remainder a field blend of everything else, all made using the saignée method to produce a very pale, delicate rosé. Malolactic fermentation is blocked to preserve the natural bright acidity and the result is one of the finest rosés on the planet and easily the best value. Elegant strawberry and citrus fruit and a bit of garrigue spice with bright, rakish acidity for a clean and refreshing finish. All of 12.5% alcohol and very quaffable. This one always sells out fast so a good candidate for a case buy.
