I buy and sell lots of Muscadet year to year, almost without fail from the same tiny handful of growers, and this is the first time in years that I’m offering a new one. The name Landron isn’t new, Jo Landron is a legend here as one of Muscadet’s best producers. His son Manu on the other hand has virtually no track record with just a couple of vintages under his belt and almost no wine to sell. I had no idea he was even making wine until a couple of nights ago when I was poured a random glass of this at dinner with the importer. We quickly finished the bottle and I bought all 10 cases available for CA. I occasionally taste Muscadet from producers I don't buy and I’ve never been compelled to buy any until this one.
Manu received 1 hectare of vines from dad a couple of years ago and is expanding a bit but just micro quantities so far. Certified biodynamic old vines on clay and gneiss soils and traditional farming and winemaking techniques. Wet stones, sea spray, citrus flower and zest, subtle anise and pear skin. Classic Muscadet of brilliant acidity and great purity. This is pure, mineral, complex Muscadet and, like all great Muscadet, the best white wine value in France. Arriving today, will go quickly.
