This is a real show stopper. Gouttes d’Or is the northernmost vineyard in the main run of 1er Cru sites beginning with Les Perrières and also one of the steepest of the bunch. Where Perrières is steely and racy, Genevrières opulent and exotic, Gouttes d’Or can be both light on its feet and sauvage in profile. Millot owns an absolutely tiny parcel of 7 ouvrées or about a sixth of an acre in the sweet spot of the belly of the slope. That’s enough to make a scant two barrels with his low yields. This is powerful, perfectly poised Meursault of the highest order from one of its best sources.
“Bernard Millot practices the lutte raisonée, ploughs his vineyards, prunes severely, picks late and bottles his best wines after 18 months. Is this the best source for Gouttes d’Or, Jefferson’s favorite Meursault?”
